Warwickshire Boys Matchplay 2007 - Bate vs Bailey
Quarter and Semi-Finals - Monday 6th August 2007 - Ladbrook Park GC - Today was a day of surprises and there will be a new name on a Warwickshire Union Trophy this Wednesday. The first match on the draw sheet was the first meeting, in matchplay, between Coventry team-mates Dan Baskott and Sam Dodds. It went all the way to the 18th, and perhaps Sam was 'birdied out' after the eight he made the day before in the 1st team match against Shropshire and Herefordshire, but he could not respond to the four birdies from Dan and was out early - the favourite was gone.

Match 2 saw Will Bailey overwhelm Phil Wastell 4&3. Some of the best golf all day was played in the third game on the draw - English Schools U16s Jamie Carney playing Stratford's Richard Tidman. Carney eventually won on the 16th and was four under par when doing so - against Tidman's two under.

In the last of the Quarter Finals, Andy Bate beat Chris Freeman 5&4.

Dan Baskott could not repeat his morning form against Bailey. He started with a birdie but two holes later, when going out-of-bounds, Bailey was ahead. There were a couple of crucial missed putts from Baskott to put Bailey three up, a lead he converted into the win.

In the second semi-final, Andy Bate was in sparkling form

'From tee to green that was almost as good as I have been all season,' said Andy as he cruised to a 4&2 win, taking the match with a birdie.
