| Nathan was most improved Junior at Maxstoke last year but this summer, he has yet to start to lower his handicap as he did last summer. That is a much harder task this year as Nathan is now off 6 and he is definitely a challenger for any gross title he competes for.
Runner-up George Allan blamed the early start (he was off the tee at 8.30) for the nine over par front nine he put together - George then dropped only two more shots all day in the last 18 holes he played and with two shots off his handicap already, he seems certain to be lower than 11 by then end of the Summer.
For George, and any other junior who wants to be a tour pro, the facts of life at that at least once a week, a start time of between 7 and 8 will be the norm and if a pro makes the cut, just, then the weekend is an early one as well!
In third place was Rhys Lawrence, looking to do a 'double' by adding the U14s to the U12s he won this Spring. Rhys was only three shots back after his morning 79 but took 41 for the pm nine holes, allowing Allan to slip past him into second place.
There was no good news in the morning for the lowest handicapper in the field, Martin Green (off 5) from Stonebridge. His afternoon 37 was much better.
Two of the stars of the future played in the same three-ball. Daanyal Spaldin was rewarded for his good play with best U12s gross - Max Martin was a bit jet-lagged after his return from the US just yesterday where he played in the World U12s (more to come in a special feature later this week and his tiredness showed.
The Best Nett (of just 99 shots!) was Harry Whitehouse-Love.
