JUNIOR NEWS - Champion of Champions and last U16s match
Sunday 16th September 2007 - Geetham Valley GC - Midland Junior Champion of Champions Tournament. Sam Dodds and Jamie Carney represented Warwickshire in the Midland Champion of Champions Tournament, with some success. Over at Rugby GC, the U16s continued their winning ways whilst Boys Team manager John Simpson has announced his team to take on Notts at Wollaton Park next month, for Midland Boys League Finals.

Sam came straight back from representing his club Coventry in the Champion Club Tournament at Hesketh (a respectable 16th place for the team which also included Bill Nicolson and Dale Middleton) to go to Derbyshire and like at Hesketh, Sam played a good nine followed by a second he would have liked to have done better on.

The morning leader was Darryn Lloyd from Lincolnshire with a 70, four shots better than anyone else on a tricky day for wind. One of three players in second place was Jamie Carney, our U16s Champion, with a 74.

Jamie ha just had the fantastic news that he is one of the Top 11 in the Daily Telegraph Junior Championships and that he will go to Dubai at the beginning of August to play in the finals!

Conditions became more difficult in the afternoon at Greetham, Lloyd shooting a level par 72 to win by nine, whilst Jamie just pipped the other two morning 74s with his 78. It was good enough for third place overall and the U16s trophy.

That was not the only third place for Warwickshire as Abbey Gittings, Warwickshire Ladies County Champion and Junior Champion, had a pair of 79s for third in the Girls.

Sam improved three shots on his morning 77, with a 74, to take second place, a round which was only marred by a double bogey at the 14th.

Over at Rugby, Dick Ferry had lost some of his top players for the final U16s match against Derbyshire. He need not have worried as the replacements did the county proud in an 11-7 win.

The morning foursomes were shared 3-3 with Warwickshire wins for Adam Ferarro & Harry Ibbertson, Tom Ibbertson & Sam Teather and Adam Moran & Ben Stokes.

In the afternoon there were eight singles wins - for Ferarro, Tom and Harry Ibbertson, Sam Teather, Ben Stokes, George Allen, Daanyal Spalding and Martin Green.

The Team, as announced by John Simpson over the weekend, to face Notts for the Midland League play-offs is

Sam Dodds (Captain)

Will Bailey

Robert Bardsley

Dan Baskott

Andy Bate

Jamie Carney

Chris Freeman

Andrew Geraghty
