| As someone with a middle-aged back whose discs are mainly the consistency of sandcastles - and those which are OK look like a Jenga tower - the opportunity of helping my muscles keep my spine intact was one not to be missed. Then there could be more power, more endurance ? what was I waiting for?
The new performance sportswear from Asics should come with a warning - don't wear it unaccompanied in front of 'them indoors' before you head for the course, or you might not make it out of the house This is high technology in fabric, tight fabric, and it 'firms and shapes' like no clothing since the corset.
If a 'bit' of you has slipped, wear this and up and in it will go. Think a Superman shirt and shorts (minus the logo). The question is 'do they give you superpowers?'
Well actually yes. Previously two rounds of golf in two days has left me taking to my bed for the following week, trying to recover, and unable to tie my shoelaces for even longer. Wearing an Inner Muscle Training Top, and shorts, and I can only report two wins and minimal aches
The vest does improve your posture instantly whilst the shorts are designed to keep your hamstrings supple. It's a different feeling wearing clothes which are (very) close fitting, something you get used to pretty quickly, and the polyester/elastane mix doesn?t compromise its give like cotton so the effects are continuous.
The fabric doesn't heat like thermals so you would wear them with say a shirt and jumper on warm Autumn days but club committees can rest easy.
This isn?t the latest derivative of the tight golf shirt designs that Tiger has made so popular, and troublesome for golf's dress regulations. If you could wear Inner Muscle Training tops 'solo' then everyday golf would look like hundreds of comic superheroes smacking balls all over the course. You never know, this might be the future, one which bulges in all the right places.
Inner Muscle Training wear, by Asics, is available from all good sports retailers and on-line sports stores
