| The NEC Golf Show takes over Hall 20 and its filled by this year's exhibitors and the indoor range. There will be at least one more hall needed next year. The range and the three tour trucks were all busy right from the off and for those who want to try out the latest clubs, you'll have to book an appointment.
There are a couple of really good gadget stands, notably for those who can't putt and those who want to get into self analysis of their own golf videos. If you are after a bargain, then you can choose form a myriad of offers, with american golf being ever so busy.
You can chat with the representatives of a dozen or more holiday destinations, plus some of the best UK golfing venues and if you want to consider property, then Turkey is well represented plus a couple of older Spanish developments and the huge project from Polaris World in Murcia
The show stage does have some interesting demos so make sure you are ready to take a seat, especially when the show is busy. Mid-afternoon might be a better option as some golfers were getting shopped out early on and struggling back to the car park over laden with golfing goodies.
That area will need to be bigger as the show expands.
The best 'show' is on the range itself, just after 2pm, when Dean Davis does a very impressive 'indoor' trick shot routine. Dean involves lots of the audience with top class skills. The one thing that you won't get from an indoor show is how well this guy can hit a ball with an assortment of clubs - and from being in mid-air when he is trampolining. Its a half hour which will make you laugh, and for the golfer who helps out with Dean's last trick, cry with anticipation - I won't spoil the denouement.
One criticism - do something about the car parking prices please NEC. They are just as bad as those for Birmingham's City centre venues. If you want people to have a really positive experience when going to an exhibition, ticket prices need to be sensible and the car parking not so much that you feel you should be able to take your car into the show with you. Sort it out please.
