2007 - The end of the season
Friday 30th November 2007 - Copt Heath Golf Club - The 2007 Warwickshire Union Annual Dinner - In their Centenary, using their newly re-furbished lounge and dining room, Copt Heath once again hosted the Union's Annual Dinner for near 200 diners. The guest of honour was Richard Palmer, President of the EGU (Pictured with John Stubbing WU President).

Each year Warwickshire invites officials from each of the other Midland Counties, plus friends from across England, to celebrate the achievements of the County and its golfers. This year, not only was Mr. Palmer in attendance from the EGU. CEO of the EGU over the last 15 years, during a time of massive change, Paul Baxter was a very welcome guest.

The Toast to the Union was proposed by Mr Palmer, in which he made specific mention of the achievements of Matt Cryer, Andy Sullivan (England representative in the Czech Amateur), Boys Captain Sam Dodds (Two Midland Championships) and English Schools U16s Champion Jamie Carney.

The response came from our President who thanked all the Union Executive for their support, both over 2007 and the two year's of John's Presidency. John did pay tribute to Peter Benka, due to take over from Mr Palmer next year, Mr Benka tragically passing away early last week.

From Nottinghamshire, their County Secretary and due to be EGU President Elect for 2008, Roy Case was also introduced to the Warwickshire members at the dinner, another honour for the Midlands.

John talked of watching Matt Cryer come so close to winning the English Amateur at Sandwich, then of his taking the British Mid-Amateur. He described a mixed year for our teams, but noted the success of the 'old people' (our Seniors).

The loudest cheers of the night were when John went on to detail how successful our Juniors have been, winning the Four Counties, then the Midland League and in October, the Boys League Finals. To conclude the 'official' part of the dinner, the Midland Golf Union President Barry Kay presented the Midland League trophy to Sam Dodds.

Then finally, the toast to the Guests was responded to by Mr Colin Price, described as a Humorist and an Entertainer - actually simply just a very funny man whose stories and mix of style of jokes reduced many to tears.
