| Golf is one of the key activities at many of the 10,000 or so camps based mainly in the North-Eastern, Midwest and South-Eastern states of the US and camp directors are particularly keen to recruit staff with practical, hands-on experience in this field.
To qualify as a golf instructor, applicants need to demonstrate good personal skills and a handicap of 7 or less. As the job may also involve living with children, some recent experience with groups of children aged 6 to 16 is also preferable.
Most jobs last eight to nine weeks; applicants need to be available to fly to the US between early May and mid-June. Once their contract has finished, participants can enjoy up to four weeks of sightseeing before heading home.
Summer Camp USA is structured to keep costs as low as possible.
Applicants pay just £ 141 to register and don't have to pay for their transatlantic flight upfront as this is initially covered by BUNAC. They are guaranteed a competitive in-hand salary on completion of contract, even after deductions for their flight, and those with specialist skills can earn more. Food and accommodation is provided free of charge for the duration of their time on camp.
Summer Camp USA 2008 is open for applications from now until April 2008.
Enquirers should first visit the BUNAC website at www.bunac.org or call (020) 7251 3472 for a copy of the Summer Camp USA brochure.
They then need to sign up for an interview, during which their skills and suitability for camp are assessed, and complete the application form - the easiest way to do this is online at: www.bunac.org/APPLY.
Interviews take place in major cities across the UK and applicants are strongly advised to book a slot at the next available session in their area, as the cream of the jobs are available at the start of the recruitment process. Successful applicants will receive full details of their job placement before they leave the UK.
Founded in 1962, BUNAC is today a UK market leader in cultural exchange work and volunteer programmes. Opportunities are available in other countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Peru, Cambodia and China on an equal opportunities basis. Most programmes are open to anyone aged 18 or over.
The next few interview dates taking place in Birmingham are:
