PUERTO RICO OPEN DEDICATED TO PUERTO RICAN GOLF LEGEND,
Sponsors Launch a Million Dollar Advertising Campaign Around the Event - The Organising Committee for the Puerto Rico Open, presented by Banco Popular and sponsored by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, announced the launch of a million dollar advertising campaign to create awareness and excitement among Puerto Ricans on the importance of this event for the island. The Puerto Rico Open will be held from 17th March to the 23rd March 2008 at Coco Beach Golf and Country Club.

Sidney Wolf, President of the Puerto Rico Golf Association (PRGA), also announced that, in a well deserved tribute, the Puerto Rico Open will be dedicated to the island's golf legend, Juan 'Chi Chi' Rodriguez.

'Chi Chi represents the best of our people and our sport, his professional and personal achievements are amazing. We sincerely hope that this recognition will serve to promote the excellent career of our most respected golf player', expressed Wolf.

The advertising campaign uses Chi Chi to promote the PGA Tour. His career spans four decades; he won 22 Senior PGA Tours, 8 PGA Tour and has earned over $7 million dollars during his career. Chi Chi Rodriguez is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and is also the first member of the Puerto Rico Golf Association Hall of Fame.

Wolf expressed his gratitude for the support and economic endorsement that the event has received, and welcomed others to be part of it. 'We are also recruiting voluntaries to work in the PGA Tour; we need 700 golf lovers to be part of this historical event'.

The first full-field sanctioned PGA Tour event in Puerto Rico will have a purse of $3.5 million and is worth 12,500 FedExCup points. The winner will earn $ 630,000 and 2,250 FedExCup points.

Hosted by the Puerto Rico Golf Association, the Puerto Rico Open represents an economic infusion of $12 million dollars for the island's economy and will benefit over a dozen local charities. The PGA Tour has given over one billion dollars to charities in the past, thanks to the great support received by events like the Puerto Rico Open.

Sharing details of the marketing and public relations plan to promote the tournament, Mr Wolf said, 'We have developed an ample campaign and media plan with an investment that exceeds one million dollars. We are making history, as this is the first time that such a investment has been used to promote a sporting event in Puerto Rico. Our purpose is to reach a broad audience so that they understand the importance of the PGA Tour coming to our island'.

The advertising campaign was developed by Sajo & Garc?a. 'We feel very proud having developed this campaign. Puerto Rico will be the spotlight for thousands of golf fans' affirmed Sajo Ruiz, president of Sajo & Garc?a. Sponsors and friends of the Puerto Rico Open, which is the first official event of the PGA Tour to be held in Puerto Rico, had the opportunity to watch a preview of the advertisements, four for television, and two for radio and print media. They were created under the direction of Jorge Bauz?, creative director of Sajo & Garc?a.

In addition to the local advertising campaign, the Puerto Rico Open will be transmitted on the Golf Channel over the four days of the event including replays. This channel reaches an audience of over 185 million households.
