Business as Usual
Warwickshire Boys vs Notts - Rugby GC - Sunday 16th March 2008. In the first of 2008's pre-season friendlies, our Boys took on their opposition from last year's Midland League Boys Finals in the annual match we have against Notts Boys to prepare for the coming summer months. At lunch, our Boys held a commanding 5-1 lead before, as per 2007, golf was interrupted by flooding - 'business as usual'!

In Match 1, Jamie Carney helped Rob Bardsley keep his winning Boys golf record going from last year. With a narrow 1up win again Notts No 1 pairing.

There were big wins for our pairs 2 and 5 - 2007 Mens Matchplay Champion Michael McCormack and big hitting Adam Ferraro won in match two, whilst the team's anchormen for last season, Chris Freeman and Andrew Geraghty, were similarly impressive, as were Will Bailey and Phil Wastell.

Twin brothers Harry and Tom Ibbertson lost a close match on the 18th before Rob Holland and Thomas Guy added the fifth point to the morning's total.

Boys Team Manager John Simpson (pictured with Dick Ferry) noted that the water was rising in the brook that meanders through Rugby's very old course during the morning, and with all the rain that fell from Saturday afternoon onwards, there was a danger of the brook breaking its banks, which it did before the afternoon singles. That meant no play in the afternoon as water soon cut off access to most of the course.

There are no more friendlies for the Boys left before the Four Counties, so today's match plus the Schools and the Boys Trials next week will be the deciding factors in selecting that team which will be going for an unprecedented 8th consecutive success.

The next friendlies will be the 1sts and 2nds taking on Northants on Easter Sunday
