THE WARWICKSHIRE BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP 2001 Held at Handsworth GC
Andy Jones and Oliver West share the honours On a glorious summer s day, Handsworth welcomed over 60 of Warwickshire best Juniors and U21 s to play in their respective championships. The course was immaculately prepared with some of the fastest greens that players had seen all Summer.

Scoring would be low but as interviews afterwards showed, the speed of the greens caught some players out. Many competitors could find the greens only to fail to convert their chances, especially when they were above the hole.

Andy Jones and Oliver West tied for the U21 s Trophy on 140, so a play-off was required. Oliver had already won the Junior Championship, beating James Crompton and Robert Steele, Warwickshire Boys Captain, by 5 shots. Andy struck first in the 3 hole play-off with a birdie at the 1st. Oliver struggled for par at the 2nd but when it came to the 18th (the third hole) he could not find the green in two to put pressure on Andy. A fine chip from the back of the green to 8ft and a putt struck firmly into the back of the hole and Andy Jones had won the U21 s.
