Nearly a double
Midland Schools Championships - Bloxwich Golf Club - Friday 30th May - Its usually a case that if the County Juniors don't quite make it to the English Finals, there is always the consolation of success in the Midland Schools and going on to and England Schools Cap. This year's team was part 'old' juniors and three players who might well figure in next year's County Team who try to repeat this year's outstanding triumph.

This was a last chance for Sam Dodds to have a crack at the English title. Unfortunately Sam's driver wasn't have a great day - at all. He won't be going to Bristol to the national schools.

James Kerr had qualification in his grasp before he stood on the tee of the 28th hole, had a quick hook and ended up with a seven - more bogies followed. James will be back next year.

Jonathan Bryan had a few putting problems for two mid 70's rounds.

Adam Ferraro is an inspirational player, a junior who can hit the ball miles and has a deft touch. He showed both, plus lots of careful control and a morning 72 was followed by a 69, which included three birdies (and nearly a hole-in-one), plus an eagle at the 11th with just a 6ft putt.

Warwickshire were seven back in the Boys team title race from Leicestershire, the last team to beat our Juniors recently, at lunch. Adam's 69 cut that deficit and the same score from James Smith, just out of juniors ranks, did more damage.

James had opened with a 72, and made four birdies in his 69 as he chased Gary Eason for the Boys title, Eason having started with the low round of the day, a 68. As it was, Eason shot a 71 to pip Smith by two.

James will be in Bristol on 30th June, as will Adam who eventually finished fifth - and we lost the team title by five - it will be back 'home' soon.
