| Ben faced Adam Gray from Rugby in the final, both players having won relatively comfortably, Ben against Dean Lake who was fighting a hook and Adam beating Mark Davies who could not repeat his excellent first two rounds form.
Stafford was completely unfazed when Gray birdied the first and his perfect putting soon put him in control. There a number of lip outs from Gray as the Rugby Colt tried to get back into the match, and on the 10th, big hitting left Gray just short of the green at this medium length par 4 ... but no birdie followed.
Approxiamtely level par, Ben claimed his first major Warwickshire Trophy with some style. Like every Champion he had had his moment, this time in the first round against Tom Price from Hearsall, when he squeezed home 1 up.
No one could believe the hitting from Price that morning. On the very tough 14th, one of the hardest holes at Moor Hall,Stafford had made the green with a 4 iron. Price used only a wedge. Its a good omen for perhaps another Warwickshire triumph at the English Schools U16s at Maxstoke next week |
