The morning started with a good win from Chris Evans and Sam Foster (Jak Hamblett was injured and had to withdraw). Dean Lake and new Warwickshire Boys Champion Chris Hazeldine lost with neither playing well but we were quickly in front once again as Andy Evans holed two very long putts on 14 and 16 for a 3&2 win.

Its been a long Summer for Dale Marson who played, in the morning, with ‘New Boy’ Mark Davies. Davies was playing well all day and they posted another point for the Junior Bears only for Andy Sullivan and Ed Hull to miss out by 2&1.

Match 1 of the singles was a battle of the England contenders, Chris Evans (for Warwickshire) against David Gojka. Evans always responds in these situations, just as he did to win the Midland Boys, and won well. At No2, Sam Foster was 3 down after nine but having chipped in at the 16th, he then birdied 17 and with a par at the last ran out 1up winner.

Lake lost to Billy Mills, one of only two dropped points in the afternoon, the other coming from Dale Marson. It was excellent golf from our mid roster players Andy Sullivan and Ben Stafford with 472 and 3&1 wins.

Andy Sullivan continued his morning form and had lots of birdies in 3&2 win whilst Ed Hill hung on for a 1up win. Mark Davies was 3 up early and stayed in control of his match running out 4&2 to the good and that left the other ‘new boy’, Chris Hazeldine to finish.

Chris was playing Ashley Chester, only 14 and recently 4th in the Reid Trophy. Considered one to watch, and obviously a precocious talent, the Shrops & Hereford player was under par early and 2 up. Hazeldine then showed how good a golfer he has become eventually winning 4&2.

This all adds up to another very strong performance which makes Warwickshire’s position virtually unassailable. If you want to see a very strong side play, come along to Maxstoke on 14th September. You are going to watch stars of now … and of the future.
