Having started with a win against Staffordshire yesterday, the task this morning was to beat Gloucestershire, winners against Worcestershire. Once again things were tight and both Jamie Carney (back playing at No 1) and Tom Ibbertson went to the 17th, Tom finding five birdies in his 3&1 win.

James Kerr couldn't get past Gloucs Matt Richards but Adam Ferraro was too good for Stevens and Mike McCormack matched Adam's 3&2 win, guaranteeing at least a halved match. The winning point came from the youngest player in our team, Nathan Ray, who was good enough to win on the 18th.

Rob Holland added a half so with a 5.5 to 2.5 win, we took back some of the points difference they had from their win on Saturday, as well as only giving them a chance of the Shield if Warwickshire lost against Worcs.

Henley is a very good test of golf so the Warwickshire afternoon birdie count of 16 (from the team) against our perennial rivals Worcs was a perfect addition to par golf from the likes of Mike McCormack and Nathan Ray (both easy winners).

The biggest wins came at Nos 1 & 2, courtesy of Jamie and Tom, whilst James came back from two down with six to play, to win on the 18th. That was five points, for the match win, and Adam added a half leaving Rob to make the score-line 6.5 to 1.5 when he won on the 16th. It wasn't Harry Ibbertson's weekend but he will be back.

Jake Scott was our reserve, and with Jamie's only just getting over a virus, he was needed all weekend and was very much part of the team. Jake will be facing the even tougher task of trying to make it 10 in 2010, alongside Nathan and Jamie, plus the new five players who will be selected for that team. In the meantime, there is the Midland League and qualification for the English County Finals to look forward to playing in for another excellent Boys Team.
