Play for afternoon singles commenced at 2.15 p.m. after the rain had subsided and the Ladbrook Park Greens staff had done a magnificent job in making the greens playable. It had been decided to commence rounds on both 1st and 10th Tees in the hope of finishing play before further rain, which in the event proved to be a good decision. Bev Belcher?s choice for the Singles matches were Abbey Gittings (Walmley), Lauren Taylor (Rugby), Charlotte Dalton(Ladbrook Park), Claire Howells (Moor Hall), Ashley Crammond (The Warwickshire) with Lisa Barton(Coventry) bringing up the rear. Abbey was 3 up on the 12th having had 2 birdies in a row and after being 4 up on the 15th, then lost the next 2 holes, before going on to post the first win of the afternoon on the 17th. Lauren played a magnificent game, before losing 2 and 1. She came off the course not quite believing that she had lost the match having scored 6 birdies in her round. Charlotte, for the 5th day in a row won her singles match after a very close game, winning on the 17th. Claire won 2 and 1, having made a great comeback after being 3 down at one point - a great recovery for the experienced Warwickshire player. Ashley had a really close match, with never much between her and Zoe Edwards her opponent. One down on the 18th Tee, Ashley holed a very long putt on the last, to halve the hole - what nerves! Meanwhile Lisa had a great win of 4 and 2, meaning that Warwickshire were victorious for the 5th day in a row.
Warwickshire therefore won by 5 points to nearest rivals Oxfordshire's 31/2.
Today Ashley Crammond also gained her Warwickshire County Colours, making the
total for the week of 3.
What an end to a very rewarding week playing against the 5 other counties on home territory. Ladbrook Park proved to be exceptional hosts for this occasion, with the course being prepared magnificently and the hospitality within the clubhouse exceptional. Bev Belcher, Warwickshire County Captain commented after being presented with the Doris Abraham Trophy for being Champions of the Midlands South Region "I am so proud to have led such a fantastic group of players. They have given their all from start to finish and have proved to be worthy winners, making this 2 wins in 2 years. We are really looking forward to competing against the other 5 County Regional winners at Pleasington Golf Club in Lancashire on 14th September."
