Andy Sullivan and Sam Dodds led out at first pair and registered a 3&2 win- impressive seeing as neither had seen the course before. Rob Browning and Chris Dougill were 4 down at the turn and looking out of it before staging a mighty comeback to win on the last. Richard Oddy and Louis Meryon were out in two under and still behind and they never got back to all square before losing 2&1. Dave Westwood and Karl Smith lost 4&3 but Ian Stranks and debutant Paul Harben took us into a lunchtime lead with a 3&1 success.

Historically we have been weaker in the foursomes and given ourselves lots to do in the afternoon but this year we have led in both morning sessions.

We needed five points from the ten singles to defeat last year's league champions and we started in great style.

Andy dominated his match with solid ball striking and was always in charge in a 5&4 win. Sam was having tough battle before eventually winning on the last. Rob was up against Shropshire's best player and birdied the last to register a well earned half point. Chris and Louis were up then down and lost on the 17th and 18th respectively.

Dave had seven birdies and only his opponents' underpar golf kept the scoreline respectable. He won 4&3. Richard was having a great tussle with his opponent until classy approach shots into the last two holes set up a par birdie finish that would ultimately give us the winning point. Behind we led in the last three games with three holes to play.

Paul, despite his maiden airshot in a county match was dormie up and won on the 17th, Ian closed out his game on the 16th and Karl was unlucky to lose on the last.

The singles went the way of the away side by a margin of 6 1/2 - 3 1/2 so the final score was 9 1/2 - 5 1/2.

Both sides struggled slightly with availability but we showed great determination and spirit to register another away win. With other teams in the league taking turns to beat each other a league triumph is in our hands and after two games we now sit at the top of the table.

Our next match is away (again) at Derbyshire on the 6th September and we will need to be at full strength to keep the winning run going.

Many thanks to John Duncombe for his support on the day. The captain would also like to thank some of his team members for their enthusiastic impressions of his swing behind the 18th green. He promises to spend a little less time in the bar and more time on the practice area in future!!
