Jamie Carney was making his first team debut and did so in style partnering Sam Dodds in a 5&4 win. Rob Browning and Paul Randle maintained their unbeaten record and impressed in a 3&2 win.

James Smith and Dale Marson were keeping out of the blazing sun with regular visits to the pine trees but only a closing birdie from the opposition denied them a full point.

Dave 'The Wizard' Westwood was with long term partner Karl Smith and with seven birdies on the card they put another pairing to the sword. Dave had predicted a full two points for himself and Karl on the first tee so they were half way there ...

Ian Stranks and Gareth Jenkins both grew up playing their golf at Kenilworth and were banker material in the last match. They kept the captain sweating during the front nine until finally taking control of their match which they won on the 17th.

At four and a half to a half up at lunch this had been our best foursomes performance of the campaign. Four hours earlier the team had been slugging balls on the range and getting themselves ready to perform and perform they continued to do.

The lunchtime instruction was to not get complacent - we only needed three points to win the league but we needed to keep our foot on the gas.

Our top order has been super strong all year in the singles and again we were fast out of the blocks. Rob had lost to his opponent a few years ago by a wide margin and he wanted revenge. I didn't see much of him but what I did see was very impressive. Only some tidy play from his opponent kept the scoreline to a respectable 3&2.

Sam was steady as ever and closed his game on the last. Paul was two down with two to play and in the trees on 17. He hacked out into the greenside trap and with his opponent only twenty feet away in two it didn't look good. In front of the watching crowd and much to the chagrin of his opponent Paul slam dunked his bunker shot to get the match down the last. Sadly a half in par meant that Notts had their first point of the afternoon.

Jamie is developing into quite a player. Up at the turn he went birdie, eagle, birdie to outclass his opponent and add to his morning point.

Karl was solid in his 3&2 win and James fought gamely for a half.

The wizard was living up to his name - in three games of watching Dave I have never seen him miss a fairway or fail to get up and down from close range! He eventually won his game on the last to make his earlier prediction come true.

Dale was struggling with his radar and despite a couple of closing birdies he succumbed on the 16th. Gareth and Ian used their local knowledge to good use and both won on the 17th.

The final score was 12-3 to Warwickshire.

We have now played four games and won all of them and this means that we will lift the Midland League trophy for the first time since 2005. I would like to thank all the players for their continued efforts and support this year. We have achieved this by being ready to play and organised on the day whilst also having a strong desire to beat whoever is in front of us.

I have been especially impressed with the desire and commitment shown to win every single point possible - we have certainly come a long way from the early season friendly defeats!

We will all look forward to celebrating at the dinner in November and those expecting a quiet night will be disappointed!

However, we still have a game to play and we host Worcestershire at Olton on the 4th October. Although the league is in the bag we will be doing our best to remain unbeaten against our old rivals.

Thanks to John Stubbings, Jim Dean, John Mayell, Mark Carney, David Morgan and Pete Clarke for their support on the day.
