| Its the Solheim Cup this week and urged on by a sold out crowd, with the World watching, this first visit to Europe for the Cup is sure to be something very special. After last year s sad ending, Europe s Ladies are sure to be fired up to take back the Cup - all bar one player, Patricia Meunier-Lebouc.
Patricia will be playing as best she can, allowing for the fact its actually two people who will be involved in every shot of this most dramatic of team competitions. She is four months pregnant!
At the Weetabix British Ladies Open, Patricia was asked about what she would bring to the team and her past experiences -
I played in 2000 and we won, I ve got good memories. I really love to play a team game once every two years ... its not thinking about yourself, looking at yourself, what we do alone. Its a strange kind of feeling.
You still have to hit your ball, but at the same time, you don t play for yourself. Its a lot of fun because you have to meet these people that are individual players, most of them, really individual players, and you see them making there way to be building a team.
Its not difficult for people like Catrina Nilsmark to be a team player. She s always been entertaining or players like Alfie (Helen Alfredsson). But other players are not really team players ... like Annika. I remember when we played in 2000. At the first dinner, we had just the Captain, the players and the caddies, and Annika stood up and spoke and really said ... we were like having tears in our eyes.
Patricia was asked about how fit she would be for the Cup and her overall impressions -
We play very day, all year long, and just to be able to see all the girls, the way you know them usually and (them) becoming different people.. So its kind of interesting and its fun. Its a fun week (Ed - do you really believe Patricia?).
We don t play for money. We go there and that s the whole thing, the most exhausting week you have ever had in your life and you give more than 100%. Its just so much, so strong feelings. strong emotions all week long.
I think I m going to have no more morning sickness (Patricia didn t have any real cravings early on in her pregnancy). I don t exercise like I used to . Usually I work out in the morning and after. Now I Don t. I just hit a few balls and warm up that way.
After winning her first major championship at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in March, Patricia will be a feared opponent in every match she plays in, and playing for two is a little bit special. Good luck to the European Ladies!
