From 2003 into 2004
Firstly, from all the staff who run ‘Warwickshire Golf’, a Very Happy New Year to you all – thanks very much for coming so regularly and in such numbers to the web site. In December we changed lots of the background to the web site, in preparation for 2004 when quite simply, we hope that your County web site will be the best of its kind. For news of this, please read on - Profiles of all the County Championships, an exclusive interview with Steve Backley, the re-opening of the Quinta Do Lago Hotel, the Costa Del Sol in depth ....

The first thing that you may have noticed is that you now stay at www.warksgolf.co.uk and that you are not transferred to our test web site anymore once you have typed in our URL. This has never affected how much of the site you can see.

We could not provide the editorial, the information, the results and the pictures that we do without the help from the County governing bodies – our huge thanks go to the officers of the Warwickshire Union and the County Ladies Association for the past three years. For 2004, many more people will be able to directly report onto the web site so that there will be more and more Features and reporting on every part of County golf.

The Warwickshire Union are also to endorse the Junior Order of Merit and the WLCGA are to run the same for Girls golf – this facility has been improved for 2003 and is probably the best of its kind in the County and it is for ANY handicap Junior Golfer – please encourage all your Juniors to register and to start scoring JoM points. The new JoM will be available from 1st February 2004.

One of the changes for 2004 is how Juniors can register on-line for the JoM, and they can do much more through this web site from next year on, as can any club member. For all County strokeplay events, you will be able to enter on-line, and pay there and then. This facility is also open to any Club Open competition (for details, please contact us as soon as possible).

We will include any Warwickshire Club Open event in our general calendar, and would like to here of these competitions as well as any changes to green fees and memberships for the New Year – just e-mail editor@warksgolf.co.uk.

Possible the most special change for 2004 is live scoring. In a number of the County Championships and matches, you will be able to log on to the site and see scoring as it happens. Its an incredible new facility that keeps you right up to date. We know we are the first for news and scores with our special reports on the evenings of a major golf event but now, you will be able to see results as they happen.

What else is coming up? – in Features we have a course guide to the best Course in Mainland Europe, our start of a review of the Costa Del Sol, our exclusive interview with Steve Backley, much more Club and Kit stuff, previews on where we will be going when we follow the European Tour, and the Weetabix British Ladies Open, in 2004.

We take a look at Ireland, host to a World Championship event in 2004, and home of the Ryder Cup in three years time. We will be ‘on tour’ in Ireland in late July with reviews of four of the very best courses on the West Coast.

As soon as the 2004 Calendars for the Warwickshire Union and County Ladies are announced, we will preview each of their Championships, the host course and the contenders for the most prestigious Amateur events for any Warwickshire Golfer. Both 1st team squads will soon start preparing for 2004 and we will be profiling the players who could take top regional, and maybe National Honours, in the coming season. They will include the two Amateur Champions Rob Steele and Hannah Coles.

Golfing and fitness are now inextricably linked and over January and February, we aim to give you a complete guide to helping you get more from your game, no matter what age or handicap you are.

If there is something you would like us to cover, please write to us.
