Health Perception Ladies’ Championship Of Great Britain & Ireland
This new Championship grows as it enters second year after a very successful Year 1. The 2004 Health Perception Ladies’ Championship of Great Britain & Ireland will get underway in April. This newly created golfing event proved to be the success story of 2003 with over 20,000 lady golfers taking part in the golf club level qualifiers. Its the only individual championship that sets out to include lady golfers from both sides of the Irish Sea and is run in association with the sport’s governing body, the Ladies’ Golf Union.

The 2003 Championship saw 13 players battle it out for the title at Wentworth in September with Heather Neale of the Cowes Golf Club returning as the victor, despite a tied winning score. She enjoyed an evening at which she received a specially commissioned bronze trophy from Rugby World Cup hero and newly appointed England skipper, Lawrence Dallaglio, and she will take part in the Pro-Am at this year’s Weetabix Women’s British Open in July.

Due to its popularity in its first year, Health Perception have agreed to increase the number of Regional Finals from 13 to 16, with Midlands venues being Trentham (23/07/04) and The Bedfordshire (21/07/04) . Sixteen players will then compete at the Grand Final that will once again take place at Wentworth on September 28th, over its World famous West Course.

The Championship’s Regional Finals and Final will see the familiar figure of Olympic Gold Medallist, David Wilkie MBE striding the fairways. David is Managing Director of the event sponsors, Health Perception, the thriving health supplement company he founded 15 years ago after his international sporting success.

David is not a golfer (yet!) but took a keen interest in last year’s championship:

“The 2003 Championship showed us the great need there was to create a competition like this and it has already established itself as one of the key events in the ladies’ golf calendar. We were delighted that such a large number took part last year and we are expecting an even greater number of participants this year, so we can look forward to some very competitive sport as well as the chance to enjoy the excellent venues this Championship will once again take us to.”
