YOUNG GOLFERS ACROSS WARWICKSHIRE GET THEIR SWINGS BEHIND THE FIGHT AGAINST HEART DISEASE Young golfers across Warwickshire will be getting their swings behind the battle against heart disease as the British Heart Foundation's annual Junior Golf Championship gets underway next month with a preliminary round at Stoneleigh Golf Club on 29 April.

Young golfers across the county will compete for a place at the regional final at Gay Hill Club, Hollywood, Birmingham on 12 July. The regional winners will go on to represent the Midlands at the national final held at The Belfry * the venue for the last Ryder Cup * on Monday 20 September where alongside awards for the top golf teams there will be prizes for individuals and teams raising the most amount of money.

The BHF Junior Golf Championship, which is open to golfers from schools and golf clubs under the age of 18 years at all levels of play, promotes physical activity among the young, and raises vital funds to help the BHF fight heart and circulatory disease * the UK's number one killer. The registration fee per team is £20 and each player must commit to raising sponsorship.

Top British Golfer, Colin Montgomerie MBE urges young golfers to get involved:

"Don't miss out on the chance to play on some of the UK's top golf courses, and at the same time have fun and raise sponsor money to help fight heart disease."

2003 was a record breaking year for the competition with a staggering £216,306 raised which helped fund groundbreaking research, lifesaving equipment, patient care and health education.

Mike Coonerty, Junior Golf Organiser for the Central England region says:

"This year we'd like to see even more teams entering from the county to build on the success of the competition and most importantly, to ensure this year's national winners are from the Midlands!"

It's never too late to enter so do if you're interested in getting involved call Mike Coonerty on 01993 891366.
