| Chartered Physiotherapists at present work with golfers at the professional level helping to treat and prevent injuries. BodyRehab aims to provide this level of expertise for all standards of golfer. At present there are a large number of golfers who complain of back pain or other musculo-skeletal problems associated with the game. This can range from mild pain to debilitating problems, affecting their golf. The problem is they feel they have to live with the pain or do not realise there is help out there. BodyRehab provides the rehabilitation to return the golfer back to pain free golf and in the process improve their swing.
Hopefully most of you do not suffer with injuries. Unfortunately due to the golf swings asymmetry, the body can adopt positions that put you at risk of injury or impair your swing. This is why BodyRehab offers a pro-active approach to the game currently being used by the top professionals. A screening process is used to assess a players posture, muscle strength, flexibility and joint range of movement. It allows any weaknesses to be highlighted allowing the formulation of an individual exercise, stretching and postural programme. The process allows the player knowledge of what part of their body may be at risk of injury and how to prevent it and enhance their swing.
Golfers ranging from the novice through to the professional are at risk of injury. The novice as they often hit to many golf balls and the professional from years of playing an asymmetrical game. Highlighting areas for improvement gives the player the impetus to improve their body for golf. An individualised warm-up, stretching during a round and a cool-down programme can all help reduce a player’s handicap. The most important aspect of the whole process is that it is individual. For example would you give the same stretching and strengthening programme to a senior golfer that you would to a professional!
That is why BodyRehab’s screening process includes analysis of a golfers set-up and swing position. If a player has an injury caused by a problem with technique then contact can be made with the player’s coach to alter the aspect of the swing that could be causing the injury.
If a player already has an injury the initial screening will highlight the problem and its cause. Often players acquire injuries that settle down but never quite fully heal or have pain associated with work that is affecting their golf. BodyRehab aims to rehabilitate players but also prevent any repeat of the injury. Back and Neck pain are 2 common injuries that can be assessed and treated, returning a player to pain free golf. The problem is that player’s often reside themselves to the fact that pain is ‘one of those’ things and feel they have to live with it. That is not the case and most injuries, with the correct advice, resolve and allow the game to be enjoyable and painfree!
