Streets ahead
If you start golf at 11, make sure you don’t just try to hit the ball as far as you can. Be like Harry Street and know that you can putt well. Just in his second year of playing golf, Harry is now the proud holder of the Wales Trophy for the best nett score in the Schools Championships – through shooting a 66 on a course nearly 6700 yards long.

This was Harry’s second trophy though, having won a putting competition at Kenilworth last year. He now has to take another three shots from his handicap because of winning the Schools and will be featuring high on the first JoM points table for 2004 – like his fellow Shirley member Jamie Carney (U11s Champion for 2003), Street could make it to the JoM Championship if he can produce a few more good results through the Summer at his home club and in the Junior Opens that are part of the JoM schedule.

If you would like to be on the JoM this year – and its for any handicap (Harry was off 26) – all you need to do is go onto the Junior Order of Merit section of this site. You have to register for a GSA number for yourself, and you clubs needs to authenticate this number for you, but this will not take much time and with a GSA number you can enter the JOM and do lots more, all from your home computer.
