Jack Sant and Steve Mumford high in the Faldo Points
Having secured second place in the first round of the qualification from the Midland and East Anglia region of the 2004 Nick Faldo series with a 79 at a wind blown Brancaster, Jack Sant (Ladbrook) went one better with a fantastic 73 over the Dukes at Woburn and now tops the leaderboard at U15s level. In 4th place in the U16s is Steve Mumford (Coventry Hearsall) after his own 72 on the famous course

Jack has already shown his calibre at Warwickshire level with a top 5 in the Boys Trials. He now has 26 points from the Faldo series with just one round to go, at Brocketts Hall in June.

His 73 was the third best score overall at Woburn, taking all the field into account – players some of who are now leaving County Junior ranks but for the Faldo qualification of 19 year old and under. It was an impressive performance and has taken Jack’s handicap down to 3.4 – still plenty of room for him to achieve even lower rating on the basis of his current form.

Steve Mumford did not do so well in the first round of qualification but his win at Woburn now takes him to 4th place at U16s level, just 4 points behind the leader and very much in with a chance of making it to the finals by claiming one of the top two places in the Q Table. It was not the best of stars to his round at Woburn – a bogey but his next 13 holes were fantastic.

Steve birdied the 5th, the 10 and the 14th to be two under with four to play. He played some good recovery shots when in trouble but could not recover from mistakes on the 15th and 16th to take him back to level. Two gritty pars on the last two saw him in the clubhouse with 72, another great score from a Warwickshire Junior. Steve is now playing off 2.8.

We will keep up-to-date with how Jack and Steve get on this Summer in the Faldo as well as reporting on when Jack Sant tries to replicate the feat of Paul Broadhurst in winning the U15s two years in succession. Both players are sure to figure in the Warwickshire Boys team through this Summer with the first League match, as we try to retain the Midland Boys League title, at Shirley on Saturday 1st May.
