The Goodyear Challenge Cup goes ahead
Despite a terrible forecast and fears that the event might be a washout the 'Goodyear' did go ahead in the brightest sunshine. Click below to read about the superb scores recorded on that day.

Nuneaton Golf Club was the venue for this years' Goodyear Challenge Cup on Wednesday, 11th August. This trophy is competed for annually by players from Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire This year the event was hosted by Warwickshire.?

This beautiful cup was first presented to Leicestershire Golf Club in 1897 for this purpose and the outcome decided over an 18 hole medal round.? Despite threatening thunder clouds and flashes of lightening, the 43 players completed the course in lovely sunshine and several excellent scores were recorded.?

Best on the day, with an?brilliant nett 65, handcap 19, was Fiona Kane from Moor Hall, winning her second Warwickshire Trophy in as many months.? Moor Hall also featured in the Gross Prize won by Claire Howells, gross 75 off a handicap of 3.? Runner-up in the Goodyear Trophy was young Charlotte Smith from Northamptonshire County, nett 68, handicap 13 with the home player Diane McCormick taking third place with a worthy nett 69, handicap 10.? All three cut their handicaps on the day.
