WARKS PUT UP A GOOD FIGHT AGAINST YORKSHIRE
Warwickshire ladies pulled out all the stops against Yorkshire in the first day of the English County Finals at High Post in Wiltshire in an exciting duel under the sun. Despite being 2 - 1 down after the morning foursomes they fought gallantly back to win the first three singles matches to narrowly lose by just 5 - 4.

Match of the day was the Curtis Cup tussle between former Curtis Cup Captain and player, Claire Dowling and Emma Duggleby. A member of this year’s Curtis Cup team, Emma was also in the side under Claire’s Captaincy in 2000 at Ganton. The two continued to produce sparkling golf all afternoon and having halved the 18th with birdie fours, the Warwickshire champion from Copt Heath took Emma the three extra holes to win at the 21st with a superb par four.

Other wins came from Tracy Atkin (Leamington Spa) and Claire Howells (Moor Hall) who both had good wins against England internationals.

In spite of narrowly losing to such strong opposition, County Captain Pat Hale took strength from her team’s performance.

“To come so close is a little disappointing, but the week is far from over and is reminiscent of County Week at Whittington Heath in June when the team were extraordinary gusty and fought hard all the way. I’m really proud of the way they all dug deep and showed such determination and team spirit.”

Day two sees Warwickshire up against Hampshire who had the easier match of the day against Glamorgan by winning 7 - 2.
