| All through the Spring and Summer, Warwickshire Juniors have collected points from a system which mirrors that of the Pro Tours with the Top 24 (and a maximum of three reserves) then coming to West Midlands Golf Club to play for a final set of Order of Merit points before the actual JoM title (and final rankings) is announced next Thursday 21st October.
The JoM No 1 is a fight between two players who have dominated Warwickshire and Midlands Golf. After an incredible start to the season and through the Summer, Andy Sullivan had amassed over 6000 points and held a near 3000 point lead over second placed Rob Browning, JoM No 1 from 2003.
Browning then stormed through to win most of the gross prize in Junior Opens he played in, whilst Sullivan was away at National Tournaments. Andy played well in the British Boys but to reach the later stages (and score big JoM points) is very much in the luck of the draw.
Rob Browning was not quite low enough handicap yet to make it into the British Boys and the like which he will be next year and to go for a hat-trick of wins, Rob will have his work cut out, especially after the showing today of Jack Sant, Andrew Middleton and Clayton Turvey who have all reduced their handicaps significantly over the Summer.
San qualified for the Faldo Series finals earlier on this week and played OK but today he was in sparkling form with birdies all over the place. Just missing out on the prizes were players such as Ben Stafford, Chris Dougill and Sam Newey, as well as three excellent prospects from Maxstoke Park Golf Club.
The JoM Championship was hosted, for the second year by The West Midlands GC and their course is coming along very well.
Prizes were supported by Titleist with bags, brollies and a top of the range 983 Driver and putter were the rewards for the JoM No1 and the Runner-up.
The JoM itself was sponsored by www.statsmachine which is going to be launched next Wednesday. Its a superb new golfing tool and their web site is well worth a visit. The Top 10 in the final JoM rankings will each receive a years subscription to statsmachine (worth £44.95) as a further prize for their efforts.
