was launched two weeks ago with editorial in the Daily Telegraph. Its going to be featured in Ireland, Scotland, Spain, France, Sweden, Belgium and even the US in the coming weeks and since the launch, thousands of info leaflets have been distributed to Warwickshire Golf Clubs, to introduce how statsmachine can be a really useful link between a golfer and their teacher.
The process of using statsmachine is very simple. There are no boxes to tick and a player can record every* shot they take so quickly using the patented interface. A player will be able to select from pre-set course yardages as specified on club cards but this will only really be accurate for Spring and Summer golf and one of the special features of statsmachine is its ability to club a player by measuring distance and success at hitting the greens on par 3s. So statsmachine offers the ability to put in a ‘My Course’ for a golfer, one which can reflect use of front tees or short term course changes, such as during Winter months. It should take around 10 rounds for the clubbing facility to be accurate and then statsmachine can do something else!
It can take the clubbing distances for irons etc, and work out driving distances on holes where a player used that club from the tee and then produce an average driving distance!
All the basic golf stats are covered – fairways hit, greens in regulation (GIR), putts etc. Statsmachine then goes even further. It can display shot patterns from the tee, then to the green. For the shorter hitter or higher handicap, in addition it will be able to display greens in regulation +1, and even GIR +2. There will be 30 or more stats available on the web site and to help golfers in every way possible, additions to the ‘stats portfolio’ are going to be introduced gradually and as the information grows, there will also be a facility to just show certain stats, a choice made by the golfer themselves. This doesn’t mean that information will be lost though as for every new feature, statsmachine will be able to re-use round info entered before an addition to the site services.
All of this information can be kept private. The choice is there for a golfer to let their professional have access to their stats records, if they so chose, simply by entering a Pro Code for each individual teacher. That teacher will only be able to see the player’s statistics, not to alter anything in any way. If you pick up one of the leaflets in Warwickshire Pro Shops, you may well see the teacher code for that club’s professional on the front page.
You can change a pro code access at any time – say when you swop teachers. Statsmachine lets you change your bag of clubs between rounds and it lets you compare individual rounds as well and you can decide to make your golf stats public. What this means is that you overall ranking and your individual performance in fairways hit etc will appear on the home page of the web site (for the top performers) and then in searchable tables when you are logged into the site for all players. You can then compare yourself against all the other statsmachine users, including by age, by handicap, by region, and by club.
The cost of a year’s subscription to statsmachine will be £44.95 from 25th December 2004. At the moment the launch offer is for a subscription for over 16 months, to 1st April 2006, for the annual rate, an offer which finishes on 30th November. There will be a special Christmas present offer from 1st December, where a gift card or special e-mail can be sent to an intended present recipient with a subscription running from 26th December 2004 through to 30th November 2005 for £39.95.
