| It was the great man who actually launched Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 in New York, back in September. On the way home after the launch, Woods slept awkwardly on his private plane and was suffering with a strained shoulder for the Amex 2004. Woods was not at his best for a couple of weeks, not that he played much in October as he was getting married and the game itself had a tiny glitch which was dealt with very rapidly.
What is now in stores for Christmas (and beyond) is something so state of the art its not true. For a start off, you can have as much fun as you want making up a player who looks like you, both in image and swing. The swing ‘bit’ is of course open to your own license because if you want to swing like the Bear or the Tiger (in your dreams) the reality can be yours. As for what you look like, we have compiled a number of faces which according to those responsible are good likenesses – there is no Rolf Harris, Van Gough or even Tracy Emin in our offices, just a bunch of weird looking characters who play Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 all day!
The swing customisation includes tempo, swing plane – just about everything. Once this is done, you can then play your preferred club (all bar a certain manufacturer as once used by Tiger, Phil, Paul Casey ..). This done, all the usual golf formats are available plus playing the PGA Tour Calendar – playing for money to improve your game.
Win money and you can spend it in the Pro Shop, adding to your kit (and clothes) and to how well you swing. If you want to make the most improvement, you need to win lots of money and to do that, you need to ‘Tiger Proof’ the courses.
What this means is being able to narrow the fairways, increase the height of the rough, change green sizes and make the bunkers VERY deep – fantastic!
There are new character, new courses and as there should be, the chance to play the Legends of golf – Big Jack, Seve, Ben Hogan – and of course a certain TW.
If you play Tiger on his Birthday, and beat him, you unlock the best Tiger Woods there is. Other new features of note – the very cool vids of people doing amazing things, notably Tiger with his bouncing bomb shot, the unplayable lie ….
This is a very playable game which for our testing was slightly easier on the X Box. We could have written ‘Amazing’ 500 time for this review and conveyed how good it is – the big question now is, what’s going to happen for 2006?
