2nd Team /
The 2nds are still in contention
Team Warwickshire 2nd's v Staffordshire at Oxley Park GC on Sunday 3rd August. Following last month's washout the 2nd's continued their league season against Staffordshire with a disappointing 11 v 7 defeat.
A rare loss for the Seconds
An excellent foursomes effort saw Warks take a creditable lunchtime lead of 3.5 v 2.5, this could have been better with the Hufton/Harben partnership being pegged back from a front nine 3 hole lead for their half and Jewsbury/Senior going down narrowly by 1 hole. Gary Greenway of Atherstone making his 2nd team debut formed a solid partnership with John Taylor for the biggest morning win of 5 & 3.
The Warks County 2nd Team 2006 Season
After a difficult year in 2005 out of the haze came one Graham Hargreaves, a born organizer of men and Warwichshire to the core. It soon became very clear that no stone was going to be left unturned in this the County?s Centenary Year. Pre-season meetings took place at County Match Secretary Mark Smith?s home over the Winter and a lot of background work was put in culminating in a squad of around 36 being drawn up which consisted of the old guard, new kids on the block and those from the development squad.
Another big win for the Seconds
Match report from Nick Clifford detailing how his team achieved another big win and went further ahead in the 2006 Midland League seconds championship, this match away at Oswestry GC
The 2nds struggle but there is another win for the 1sts
For the second friendly of 2005, new Captain of the Warwickshire 2nds Nick Clifford was not able to field a strong team against Leicestershire and the team lost 10-5. It was valuable experience for players who are on the fringes of selection but if winning the Midland League title is a target (as in 2003), those who play for this team are going to have to find their very best golf.
Preparations well under way for 2005
6th February 2005 - Andy Kearns (1st Team Captain) gathered together at Stratford Oaks GC 18 of the players under consideration for County golf for 2005, for an intensive short game and pre play preparation day. Aided by Graham Hargreaves (WU Executive member who has managed much of the new County intitiatives behind ‘Team Warwickshire’) and prospective new County Secretary Graham Hayes, this was a first chance to see the results of individual players’ work during the off-season as Warwickshire prepare to defend the Midland title and look to making County Finals.
