McCormack makes his mark |
 |
|
WUGC Mens Matchplay Final - Sunday 10th June - Michael McCormack took the step of his first Warwickshire Mens Championship today at a very much younger age than many. Only Rob Steele and Tom Whitehouse have done so in the last decade so how he goes from this first win will be of much interest. The win (in the final) was not the birdie fest of last Friday but a gritty win where every shot was fought for against an opponent in David Hayes whose Matchplay record is of the highest level.

When you are good ... |
| 2006 Mens Matchplay Final - Sunday 11th June 2006 - Rory Kirwan does a few things very well when he plays golf. He hits loads of fairways, is very precise with his approaches and he putts well. If any part of his game isn't working as he wants, he is very rarely fazed and his short game can cope with most problems. Rory plays his own game always and it was something near his best that was too good for Andy Sullivan in the Centenary Mens Matchplay.

Kirwan vs Sullivan for the title |

If you decide that it is too hot to play golf this Sunday (11th June), then bring along an umbrella for some shade and you could well be watching some of the best (and hottest) golf you will see this year at any Tournament when the Centenary Matchplay Championships, for the huge TP Cooke Trophy, is decided over 36 holes at Copt Heath Golf Club, between Rory Kirwan and Andy Sullivan.

The 2005 Matchplay - Win One for Browning. |
| Robin Hood GC - Sunday 10th July. Amongst the Warwickshire Boys, Rob Browning has one of the highest work ethics for his game, having left school at 16 to try and make the most of his talents. His reward for his efforts was a first Warwickshire Championship, the T P Cooke Trophy (one of the largest cups around) by beating his fellow Maxstoke member Anthony Gascoigne 7&6.

The 2004 Warwickshire Matchplay Final |

‘If I play my best golf, I can beat Matt (Cryer)’, said Graham Hargreaves before today’s 36 hole final. It has been 23 since Graham last appeared in the final. On that occasion he played a certain Peter McEvoy and lost 3&2, a match also played at Ladbrook. The omens seemed good as Hargreaves took the lead at the very first hole with a birdie four. |

2003 Matchplay Championship |
| held at Olton GC - 13th and 15th June
With a wonderful trophy, covered in Warwickshire Golf History, Matt Cryer was more than happy with his first Warwickshire Title. He is the holder of the TP Cooke Salver but having played so well through Junior and Senior ranks, he had never won a name title - until today.
