• Celebrities to tee-off for Help the Aged

    Stars of sport, screen and stage will be going head-to-head at this year's annual Mad March Hares Golf Tournament which takes place on Wednesday, 28 March at Kingswood Golf Club in Surrey. The event is in aid of Help the Aged, the Charity fighting to free disadvantaged older people from poverty, isolation and neglect and will be hosted by actor Robert Powell.

    Emerging golf nation Colombia proved the surprise package at the International Pairs world final at Celtic Manor. Pablo Hernandez, 20, and Julio Garcia Salas, 28, romped to a four-point win from English teenagers Robbie Turner, 17, and Ian Ritchie, 16. It was nine-handicapper Hernandez?s first visit to the UK and Salas? first time playing golf in the country ? but the warm weather must have felt like home. They were not fazed by playing Wentwood Hills, a course which will host the Ryder Cup in 2010 and were seldom threatened.

    More than 100 pear trees have been distributed to golf courses across Yorkshire and Lancashire. Club officials found themselves unexpectedly confronted by visitors bearing these rather unusual gifts. Far from being renegade horticulturalists the visitors were in fact representatives of the International Pairs – the largest golf competition for club golfers in the world – hoping to spread the word about the tournament and talk to golf clubs face to face.
