A Swing Through Time from the 'dark ages' of golf
The origins of golf are a matter of mystery and controversy. Little, if any, evidence of the game in the form of golfing equipment or recognisable images survives from earlier than the mid 18th century. But now, A Swing Through Time: Golf in Scotland 1457 - 1744 enlightens us about the 'Dark Ages' of golf, travelling through time on a journey from the game's early illegitimacy to the establishment of the first golfing societies and clubs in the mid 1700s.
GOLF - FACTS FIGURES & FUN
By Ed Harris - There are lots of books which take the anecdotes from the game and intertwine them with records and list of achievements, many old, a fair few new. Its a brave author (and publisher) who look to add their contribution to the library of golfing literature which soon will need a substantial Victorian building to house it all. Ed Harris is the latest such writer so where does 'Golf - Facts, Figures and Fun' rate in the scale of things for contribution to our game and its mass collectability appeal?
Spitfire on the Fairway - By Dale Concannon
Wartime stories are often about bravery and loss. There are tales of returning home, of sacrifice and of support from those not directly involved in a conflict. 'Spitfire on the Fairway' is a history of golf in wartime, not just from the last two World Wars. This is a superb little book which history but is entertaining as well as thought provoking.
