A 'par-fect' day for local golf graduate |

Local man James Crompton is celebrating a 'fairway' ahead as he graduates in Applied Golf Management Studies at the University of Birmingham. He is among 20 students who are the first in the world to graduate with this type of BA Hons degree. The three-year programme is a result of a partnership between the University of Birmingham and the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA), and links a high level academic qualification with a vocational professional one.  |

MIDLANDS TALENT HELPS DRIVE THE PGA FORWARD |

Two professional golfers from The De Vere Belfry in Sutton Coldfield have soared high above the rest of the nation to secure top positions in the PGA’s national training programme.
Jamie Wood and Anthony Haste finished ahead of more than 220 and 250 other national candidates to graduate in first place in the Year 2 Trainee of the Year category and third place in the Rookie Trainee of the Year category. |

GOLF SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE USA |

Americans have been honing their golfing skills at US universities for decades, going back to Arnold Palmer in the 50 s (Wake Forest), Jack Nicklaus in the 60 s (Ohio State) and Ben Crenshaw in the 70 s (Texas). But it was really the likes of Tiger Woods (Stanford) and Phil Mickelson (Arizona State) in the 90 s that have awakened young British golfers like Luke Donald (Northwestern), Paul Casey (Arizona State) and Becky Morgan (North Carolina @ Greensboro) and hundreds of wannabees to the opportunities to improve their golf and continue in higher education.
