Warwickshire Girls fortunes at the English Girls Championships
The English U18 Girls Championship was staged at Kings Norton last week. Hannah Coles (5) qualified 14th overall with a 77 & 76 to earn a place in the first flight playoffs and lost in the second round to Ellie Givens (1). Charlotte Dalton (5) & Abbey Gittings (5) qualified for the second flight after opening rounds of 79. Abbey lost in the 1st round but Charlotte battled through the first day, winning on the 19th & then the 20th holes, only to succumb in the next round.
It's Felicity v Emma in English championship quarter final
Defending champion Felicity Johnson will take on the two-time winner Emma Duggleby in the quarter finals of the English Ladies' Close Amateur Championship at West Lancashire Golf Club. Emma, (Malton & Norton) who won this title in 2000 and 2003, eased comfortably through her first two matches. In the first round she beat international Jodi Ewart (Catterick) 4/3 before going on to knock out the top seed, Kerry Smith (Waterlooville), by the same margin.
PAT HALE brings home an ELGA Trophy
Buckinghamshire's Christine Watson gave herself the perfect birthday present when she won a "monumental battle" to become English Seniors' Champion BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY FOR WARWICKSHIRE LADIES The Division B final was won by Pat Hale (Edgbaston) who beat Lotti Edmunds (Aldeburgh) 3/1. We don't have immediate detailed news of how Pat won but please congratualte Pat whenever you can.
Top seed Carole Caldwell in semi-finals of English Seniors' Championship
Top seed Carole Caldwell is safely through to the semi-finals of the Senior Ladies' English Close Championship at her home club, Sunningdale. The former Curtis Cup player now meets Christine Watson (Beaconsfield) while defending champion Chris Quinn (Hockley) takes on Sue Pickles (Lee on the Solent).
