Golf Son Gual, Mallorca's number one golf destination, continues to rack up the plaudits despite opening only in 2007. The Thomas Himmel-designed course, just more than eight miles from the capital Palma, has been included in the new Rolex World's Top 1,000 Golf Courses guide, published by D'Algue Selection.

PGA Catalunya Resort, Barcelona, has been named among the world's top 100 golf courses for 2011. The Stadium Course, which held the European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage last December, is a new entrant (86th) on a newly published list by the authoritative Top 100 Courses of the World website: www.top100golfcourses.co.uk

The Costa del Sol has long been a favourite destination for sun seeking golfers, particularly when conditions at home are far from enjoyable. The region is so popular is has been christened Costa del Golf, and with forty eight courses, stretching from Malaga to Gibraltar, it is a golfing paradise.

PGA Catalunya Resort, home of the 2009 Spanish Open, is this week welcoming back the PGA European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage, (November 28-December 3) for the second successive year. The finale of the three-stage event, which sees 156 players battle for playing privileges on the European Tour in 2010 (the top 30 plus ties qualify), is being contested over six rounds on both the Tour and Stadium courses at the acclaimed 36-hole resort near Girona, north of Barcelona.

Ryder Cup star Miguel Angel Jimenez set a course record at the superb new championship golf resort in Spain which he will be representing. The world number 23 shot a five-under-par 67 over the 7,300-yard Dave Thomas-designed Hacienda del Alamo, in Murcia, in a round that included seven birdies.
