Amex 2004 – Day 3 - No more excuses |
| Having spent ‘a little more time on the greens than I should have on Friday', Tiger Woods was ready to find his putting form once again as he sought a third American Express Championship in a row at Mount Juliet Conrad. Irish hopes were resting on Padriag Harrington also finding his putting form, with tens of thousands of supporters ready to cheer on every stroke from the World No 7. |

‘Will he – won’t he?’ was the first question to be answered at Mount Juliet Conrad as Tiger Woods made his decision to play. It was the wounded gladiator committing to the arena and there is a separate feature on the start of Tiger’s round on this site, suffice to say what looked like being a few holes turned into a round of 68 – glorious |

Into the Arena |
| Ernie had long left the 1st tee before Tiger made his appearance – in fact Luke Donald and K J Choi, Woods’s playing partners, were on their own for enough time to go through the story of this year’s Ryder Cup before the first feint ripple of applause from as few youngsters sitting at the top of the 1st tee stands signified his arrival, spot on his 12.50 tee off time. |

This is the time of ‘Season premiers’ on US TV. Its not necessarily new programmes - It can be specials for established shows where a few extra stars are brought in for effect (and publicity) or it can be the actual premier of a new show. Perhaps the Ryder Cup was the ‘season premier’ for US Fall golfing TV, in which case it was like letting loose 10 000 moles on Augusta. US TV and all other media are here at Mount Juliet to try and rescue things, with Tiger Woods being their ‘champion’, having dominated the World Golf Championships roster since its inception in 1999. |

The 2004 American Express Championship |
| This is what 75 of the World’s best golfers are playing for this week, together with a first prize of £665K from a prize fund of … lots of money. This weekend, our 1st Team will be going to Kidderminster to take on Worcestershire, playing for a trophy with a lot more age and no monetary value, but that is Amateur golf and Warwickshire are looking to be the best in the Midlands for 2004. |
