The rumours of this part of Ireland being hit by the tail end of a hurricane were being spread by everyone and anyone as a dull but instant rain fell on Mount Juliet Conrad for the first three hours of play. A handful of players made the turn in level or one under with one US star showing everyone else what they should be doing.

It was the wounded gladiator committing to the arena and there is a separate feature on the start of Tiger’s round on this site, suffice to say what looked like being a few holes turned into a round of 68 – glorious

This is the time of ‘Season premiers’ on US TV. Its not necessarily new programmes - It can be specials for established shows where a few extra stars are brought in for effect (and publicity) or it can be the actual premier of a new show. Perhaps the Ryder Cup was the ‘season premier’ for US Fall golfing TV, in which case it was like letting loose 10 000 moles on Augusta. US TV and all other media are here at Mount Juliet to try and rescue things, with Tiger Woods being their ‘champion’, having dominated the World Golf Championships roster since its inception in 1999.

This weekend, our 1st Team will be going to Kidderminster to take on Worcestershire, playing for a trophy with a lot more age and no monetary value, but that is Amateur golf and Warwickshire are looking to be the best in the Midlands for 2004.
