Over a very well set-up and prepared Ladbrook Park golf course, a field of 80 of Warwickshire’s best contested the 2004 Amateur Championship trying to win the most prestigious title the County has …. and one Matt Cryer (Coventry) had been waiting for (and wanting) for a long time. As the best handicap in the County (and part of the England Teams set-up), Matt was the favourite and after an opening 68 he was in great position to take his first Amateur.

They will be playing 36 holes at Ladbrook Park and the defending Champion Rob Steele (Kenilworth) will be all out to defend his title against one of the strongest fields for years.

Handsworth GC 12th May With showers forecast all day, the heavy and continuous morning rain soon dampened the hopes of some of the field. First off was Handsworth member Dave Westwood who with solid putting and driving posted his best ever round at his home club, a 67, including 5 birdies. It was a score that no-one would match even with the improving conditions.
