Boys v Notts - Friendly Match
This is a report on the opening Juniors match from last weekend. The match was played at Whitefields GC on a very cold and breezy day. Warwicks won the morning foursomes 4 1/2 to 1 1/2. Winners were Chris Dougill and Rory Kirwan, Steve Mumford and Andrew Geraghty, John Paul Banbury and Rob Bardsley, Steven Butler and Sam Newey.
Warwickshire are tied second but impress everyone
When Yorkshire took the morning foursomes against Gloucs, and Warwickshire lost 2-1 to Essex, any hopes of the County Championship title coming to our county were gone. Yorkshire would end up demolishing the Gloucs singles and win 8-1 overall in that match, meaning that the many visitors from south of London could only hope for their Juniors to take the prestigious trophy by beating Warwickshire. But, once again facing many players who have played for England, our players came out on top in the individual part of the match - and what golf there was played.
Its a loss vs Yorks but Warwickshire can still win.
D2 - County Chamionships - Having lost the morning foursomes 0-3 against pre County Championships favourites Yorkshire, there was very little hope of actually taking the overall match, such is the depth of the 'Roses' county with many England players in their squad. The overall win did not happen but Warwickshire managed to take the singles 3.5 - 2.5 to still be very much in with a chance of taking the English title.
First win down - two more required
Junior English County Championships 2005 - Little Aston GC On Day 1 of the County Championships Warwickshire were drawn against annual 4 Counties opponents Gloucestershire (early each season) - and the result was as per the last five Spring meetings of the Junior Teams, a win for Warwickshire.
Preview of the Junior County Championship and European News
There was a big wake-up call last Sunday for our Junior team who are to play in the County Finals next week at Little Aston from Monday to Wednesday - 29th - 31st August. They lost (for the first time in a few years) in a Midland League Match to the team which represented the Midlands last year in the County Finals. Meantime, Matt Cryer was going so close to becoming European Amateur Champion over in Belgium.
