Warwickshire are through - the perfect Centenary present!
County Captain, Graham 'Seve' Hargreaves, knew exactly what had to be done to prepare to win the Midland region qualifying for the 2006 County Finals. He rang Northants GC a year before hand to book the three buggies he wanted and then made sure that everything was there to give his team a chance of success, from the hotel to a number of practice rounds, to cakes and drink - and then he forgot his matches on the day (more later)!
Our players are blown away
The British Amateur Championships 2006 - Royal St Georges and Princes GC - At around 2pm on the second day of qualifying for the 2006 British Amateur, those players with more than nine holes to play, or yet to start, found their chances of making the top 64 (and thus into the matchplay) taken away by a substantial increase in the wind speed which saw virtually everyone become a victim of unplayable conditions.
The 2006 County 6s Qualifier
Centenary County Captain Graham Hargreaves has just announced his team of six players who will take part in the 36 hole Midlands Region qualifier for the English County Championship this Saturday 24th at Northampton County. This is the toughest of formats with every score counting and the winning county (who will go to Princes GC in September) will be the one with the lowest 6 man total - every shot is vital
When you are good ...
2006 Mens Matchplay Final - Sunday 11th June 2006 - Rory Kirwan does a few things very well when he plays golf. He hits loads of fairways, is very precise with his approaches and he putts well. If any part of his game isn't working as he wants, he is very rarely fazed and his short game can cope with most problems. Rory plays his own game always and it was something near his best that was too good for Andy Sullivan in the Centenary Mens Matchplay.
Boys win another League match
Midland Junior League vs Derbys - Sunday 11th June - away at Ashbourne GC - Warwickshire ended the morning session sharing the points, but took charge of the match in the singles winning 8 matches and halving one to complete the best win of the year 11/4.
Kirwan vs Sullivan for the title
If you decide that it is too hot to play golf this Sunday (11th June), then bring along an umbrella for some shade and you could well be watching some of the best (and hottest) golf you will see this year at any Tournament when the Centenary Matchplay Championships, for the huge TP Cooke Trophy, is decided over 36 holes at Copt Heath Golf Club, between Rory Kirwan and Andy Sullivan.
