  • Phillips denies Cryer the Treble

The Warwickshire Open 2004 – Olton GC – Wednesday 1st September Olton was playing tough for the 40 competitors for the 2004 Warwickshire Open, despite one of the best days weather for golf this Summer. Our Amateurs found the par of 69 very difficult, through some tough pins and fast greens. The Professionals, who only qualified from their Championship last week, faired a little better and the two first round leaders were Russell Smith (Sutton Coldfield) and Craig Phillips (Nuneaton) on 68 (-1).

  • Super Ray takes the U11s

With a storming round of 29 over the Lea Marston Par 3 course, Nathan Ray held off the challenge of three girls to take the Warwickshire Schools U11s by two points using the specially modified stableford system for this competition. It was excellent golf from the inform Maxstoke Junior who shot a 79 nett 65 at the Kenilworth Junior Open just last week.

  • Sant hits the double

North Warks GC – Tuesday 3rd August 2004. A year ago to the day, Jack Sant (at aged 13) stated he wanted to emulate Paul Broadhurst in winning the Warwickshire U15s two years in succession. It was a positive message that Jack has carried with him since as he progresses rapidly through the ranks of Warwickshire Junior Golf and today; he lived up to his word with a score of 2 under par for the 27 holes of the Championship.

  • Doughill takes Midland U16s honours for 2004

With two rounds of 72, it was a great performance from one of the youngest of the Warwickshire contingent in the 2004 Midland Boys at Moseley GC. With our County having won this Post and Mail trophy for Midland Boys itself, each of the last three years, expectations were high throughout but eventually only Chris Doughill was able to claim a Midland Trophy.
