Warwickshire Juniors perform very well again
The Midland Schools Championships 2005 ý Maxstoke Park GC ý Friday 3rd June. It was another day of success for Warwickshire Juniors at the Midland Schools, just 48 hours after winning the County 6s for Boys qualifier by 14 shots. These championships are only open for Juniors still in full-time education so a couple of players were not available. This meant places for two ýwild cardsý in the field and they both took advantage.
Back in the Finals
In search of a second appearance in the English County Junior Finals in five years, Warwickshire Juniors took a 14 shot lead into the second 18 at St Neotts GC. That lead was mainly due to the 66 (-3) from Andy Sullivan and the 67 (-2) from Chris Doughill, backed up by the other four team members playing the equivalent of the ýbest of the restý.
A big win for the end of the season
At Morley Hayes Golf Club, on Tuesday 19th October, Warwickshire retained the Midland Junior League title with an excellent performance in some terrible conditions. Having qualified unbeaten again, their opponents were the same as 2003, Nottinghamshire. It promised to be a close match but after a morning foursomes win by 4-1, Warwickshire were very much in the driving seat.
Unbeaten for 2004 – now for Notts
The 2004 Warwickshire Juniors Team, which to Brian Fish, Chairman of Junior Golf are Brian thinks ‘The best squad of Juniors in the Midlands’, continued their unbeaten run of team matches that stretches back into 2002, when the likes of Chris Evans was playing, with a, 8.5-5.5 win over Derbyshire at Burton-on Trent Golf Club on Sunday 11th September.
Three out of Three
At Brocton Hall, as Todd Hamilton was winning the Open, the Championship he had dreamed about and worked for in two decades playing golf across the World, 12 Warwickshire Juniors were continuing winning ways by beating Staffordshire Juniors comfortably to cement the team’s position at the top of the Midland League.
Junior Team win No 2 – and gain some sort of revenge
It was the turn of Shropshire & Herefordshire to visit Warwickshire for the second of the 2004 Midland League matches. Brian Fish’s Junior team comfortably won away last year and our team had only lost two players through those players becoming too old for this season. Ron Snelling, Chairman of Shrops & Hereford had some younger players in his squad and both teams were missing a couple of ‘stars’ so the result of the Junior County 6s for 2004 pointed to a close match.
