• Right up there - Warwickshire keep winning

Sunday August 5th - Midland League Matches 2006 R3 vs Worcs - 1sts away at Moseley and 2nds home at Edgbaston. Warwickshire keep on winning. In his previous Captaincy of Warwickshire, Worcestershire have proved a 'bogey' side to Centenary County Captain Graham Hargreaves but not today as his side achieved a big win 11.5 to 3.5 to put them very much in contention for the Midland League title whilst the Second Team, under the stewardship of Nick Clifford, remained unbeaten.

  • County 6s qualification - The thoughts of your Captain

Its been 6 years since Warwickshire last qualified for the Men's County Finals and 16 since we last won. In that team was a certain G Hargreaves and Graham came away from those three days with 4 points out of 6 - 'I was probably the worst of the 28 players there - there were Internationals everywhere'. How Graham helped Warwickshire that year is much of why we succeeded this and these are the words of your Captain in describing this year's qualification -

  • Warwickshire are through - the perfect Centenary present!

County Captain, Graham 'Seve' Hargreaves, knew exactly what had to be done to prepare to win the Midland region qualifying for the 2006 County Finals. He rang Northants GC a year before hand to book the three buggies he wanted and then made sure that everything was there to give his team a chance of success, from the hotel to a number of practice rounds, to cakes and drink - and then he forgot his matches on the day (more later)!

Sunday 20th April 2006 - At the Marriott Forest of Arden and Rugby GC, the 1sts and Boys Team both took impressive victories against Somerset and Worcestershire respectively, the first match sealing a 5-0 series of wins of friendlies for Centenary County Captain Graham Hargreaves, the second match an excellent start for U18s Boys Team Manager John Simpson in the Midland Boys League.

Warwickshire have to send a team each year to the County 6 qualifier for the English County Championship. Itıs the toughest form of competition there is, with all six players playing 36 holes and their total score being added to together (no discards) with only the winning team going through to the National finals. For County Captain Andy Kearns, itıs the toughest selection each year and the team for this yearıs qualifier, at Worfield GC in Shropshire is ....

  • 18th Hole blues but itıs a good start

Newcastle GC Staffs ı Sunday 5th June ı Warwickshireıs 1st Team repeated the first match draw of last year against Staffordshire in the Midland League, this time away in Staffordshire and for County Captain, Andy Kearns, this was a good result. ıI am satisfied with the result, away against one of our strongest opposition, and a match which when its been in Staffordshire, our County doesnıt have the best record.ı

  • Preparations well under way for 2005

6th February 2005 - Andy Kearns (1st Team Captain) gathered together at Stratford Oaks GC 18 of the players under consideration for County golf for 2005, for an intensive short game and pre play preparation day. Aided by Graham Hargreaves (WU Executive member who has managed much of the new County intitiatives behind ‘Team Warwickshire’) and prospective new County Secretary Graham Hayes, this was a first chance to see the results of individual players’ work during the off-season as Warwickshire prepare to defend the Midland title and look to making County Finals.
