First win down - two more required
Junior English County Championships 2005 - Little Aston GC On Day 1 of the County Championships Warwickshire were drawn against annual 4 Counties opponents Gloucestershire (early each season) - and the result was as per the last five Spring meetings of the Junior Teams, a win for Warwickshire.
Kirwan begins and ends 2005 with a big win
2005 Warwickshire U21s Matchplay Championship - Sutton Coldfield GC - 25th August. In a display of golf that would grace any Matchplay final (no exaggeration), Rory Kirwan added to his Schools Championship (Strokeplay) with the U21s title, and prevented Ben Stafford from completing the treble of wins in a competition which brings together the best of the Boys and those just left the Junior ranks.
U21s Matchplay news plus U16s win again
Sutton Coldfield GC - Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th August - Three of the Warwickshire Boys playing in the English County Finals, next week at little Aston, 'warmed-up' for that championship in the first two rounds of the U21s Matchplay whilst last Monday, our U16s beat Worcestershire U16s at Atherstone.
Preview of the Junior County Championship and European News
There was a big wake-up call last Sunday for our Junior team who are to play in the County Finals next week at Little Aston from Monday to Wednesday - 29th - 31st August. They lost (for the first time in a few years) in a Midland League Match to the team which represented the Midlands last year in the County Finals. Meantime, Matt Cryer was going so close to becoming European Amateur Champion over in Belgium.
Warwickshire Seniors 2005 - Sutherland takes play-off
Harborne GC - Monday 15th August. In the drama of a play-off, Roger Sutherland took his first Warwickshire title by making a birdie three against Ron Edmonson, another debutante in the most prestigious title for the over 55 golfer in our County. Both players had stories to tell about how they played, or how they actually came to play in the event, and there were some familiar trophy winners in the age categories.

Both Bill Nicolson and Matt Cryer made it through to the round of 64 matchplay stage of the British Mid-Amateur Championships but neither could win their first round matches. Cryer going out on the 37th to US opposition. Warwickshire Seniors came second in the MGU Senior Team Championship whilst at the other end of the 'age' spectrum, there was very good news at the Reid Trophy.
