WLCGA County Championships 2007 - Stratford-on-Avon GC - Semi-Final and Final - Wednesday 2nd April. Abbey Gittings was No1 from the moment she handed in her second qualifying round score, the player in most control in the wind and over the hard fairways, and on the silky greens that Stratford presented to all the competitors who started out on Monday morning. In the final she met the No 2 qualifier Sue Westall and that control never left Abbey's game ...
HIGH QUARTER FINAL DRAMA
2007 County Championships - Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club - Tuesday 1st May - 1st and QFs of the Matchplay. This was day of high drama and excellent golf, starting with Marsha Button beating Alexandria Meek (nee Cook) on Alex's return to top level golf. Alex has only just started to get her game back after five years away but it was a superb performance from Marsha, setting up a battle of the more 'senior' ladies in the draw as Marsha would go on to play Sue Westall in the quarters.
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007 - DAY 1
Stratford-on-Avon Golf Club - Monday 30th April 2007 - The Silver Division Medal and the qualifying rounds for the 2007 County Championships. Experience and youth topped the field for the qualifiers to the Matchplay section of your County Championship, in the form of multiple winner of trophies (now at seniors level) Sue Westall and this year's Junior Girls Captain Abbey Gittings.
THE LONDON GOLF SHOW
The UK's no1 golf retailer, american golf, will provide Europe's largest golf retail area when the London Golf Show returns to ExCeL for its third outing on April 26-29.And this year there are even more reasons to attend as two juniors can go free if accompanied by a paying adult. The iconic floating green will once again attract much interest, but it has been revamped to provide an even more exciting and unique experience.
Its Alice's first County title!
Warwickshire Schools 2007 - Stratford Oaks GC - Tuesday 10th April - The three top girls played in the 2007 Schools and it was a big battle to decide who would be the new Schoolgirls Champion. Alice Young, Hannah McLoughlin and Lauren Clark-Hughes have all been players in the Schools since their handicaps were high and their age very young. This was the first year they were all in contention and they each wanted the lovely trophy so much.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THE GOLF SEASON
Its just a few weeks to the start of the 2007 season and County Captain Anne Parry and 2nds Captain Kath Ashley are readying their players for what will be a busy season, whilst Warwickshire Junior Girls continue to develop into such a talented group. This month there is the Luncheon at The West Midlands Golf Club with Beverly Lewis as guest speaker (see the separate feature - make sure you have a ticket!) whilst April sees all the WLCGA teams taking part in pre-season friendlies.
