• Bad day at the office - Midland League 1st team - R2

Harborne GC - Sunday 3rd July 2005 - 1st team vs Notts - 'You don't win matches tee to green' was one comment and County Captain Andy Kearns was more forthright after a disaster on the foursomes was followed by a fight back that with 9 holes to play, seemed to point to a Warwickshire win.

  • Mens County Finals Qualifier

Worfield GC - Saturday 18th June 2005 - Worfield was baked and with a stiff breeze, the lunchtime Warwickshire scores were good, actually very good. But not good enough. From the Union's team of six, with all score to count, the total team score was -6 (six under par). This was 15 shots adrift of Lincs!

  • 18th Hole blues but itýs a good start

Newcastle GC Staffs ý Sunday 5th June ý Warwickshireýs 1st Team repeated the first match draw of last year against Staffordshire in the Midland League, this time away in Staffordshire and for County Captain, Andy Kearns, this was a good result. ýI am satisfied with the result, away against one of our strongest opposition, and a match which when its been in Staffordshire, our County doesnýt have the best record.ý

  • The winning habit starts again

‘In these friendlies it’s a chance to prepare for the season but winning is a good habit to get into and to keep’, said Andy Kearns, County Captain. After a very good start in the first friendly of year in the foursomes, that habit was retained but only just and it was a past Captain of Warwickshire who provided the golf, and the point, which gave our county a 6.5 to 5.5 win at Coventry Golf Club. This report also contains detail of a win for the Juniors away against Notts.

  • Preparations well under way for 2005

6th February 2005 - Andy Kearns (1st Team Captain) gathered together at Stratford Oaks GC 18 of the players under consideration for County golf for 2005, for an intensive short game and pre play preparation day. Aided by Graham Hargreaves (WU Executive member who has managed much of the new County intitiatives behind ‘Team Warwickshire’) and prospective new County Secretary Graham Hayes, this was a first chance to see the results of individual players’ work during the off-season as Warwickshire prepare to defend the Midland title and look to making County Finals.

  • The Midland League 1st team trophy is back in Warwickshire

On a day when bad weather was expected to disrupt play for the last day of Midland League matches for 2004, for County 1st and 2nd Teams, it was a delighted (eventually) Andy Kearns who saw the fruits of developing Team Warwickshire, together with Gordon Marston whose second team saw his caretaker year as Captain finish in incredible style.

  • One more win to go.

Nuneaton GC – Sunday 5th September – Match 4 in the Midland League for our 1sts Team against Derbyshire. It’s a great time of his life for 1sts Captain Andy Kearns, after the arrival of his first child, Max, a few days after the win away against Notts. With a 9-6 win today against Derbys, His Team can take the Midland League title with a win away against Worcs on the first Sunday of next month, so repeating the triumph of two years ago.
