Warwickshire Juniors perform very well again
The Midland Schools Championships 2005 ı Maxstoke Park GC ı Friday 3rd June. It was another day of success for Warwickshire Juniors at the Midland Schools, just 48 hours after winning the County 6s for Boys qualifier by 14 shots. These championships are only open for Juniors still in full-time education so a couple of players were not available. This meant places for two ıwild cardsı in the field and they both took advantage.
The County 6 Team for 2005.
Warwickshire have to send a team each year to the County 6 qualifier for the English County Championship. Itıs the toughest form of competition there is, with all six players playing 36 holes and their total score being added to together (no discards) with only the winning team going through to the National finals. For County Captain Andy Kearns, itıs the toughest selection each year and the team for this yearıs qualifier, at Worfield GC in Shropshire is ....
18th Hole blues but itıs a good start
Newcastle GC Staffs ı Sunday 5th June ı Warwickshireıs 1st Team repeated the first match draw of last year against Staffordshire in the Midland League, this time away in Staffordshire and for County Captain, Andy Kearns, this was a good result. ıI am satisfied with the result, away against one of our strongest opposition, and a match which when its been in Staffordshire, our County doesnıt have the best record.ı
Back in the Finals
In search of a second appearance in the English County Junior Finals in five years, Warwickshire Juniors took a 14 shot lead into the second 18 at St Neotts GC. That lead was mainly due to the 66 (-3) from Andy Sullivan and the 67 (-2) from Chris Doughill, backed up by the other four team members playing the equivalent of the ıbest of the restı.
Juniors take centre stage
This coming week, notably 1st June, Warwickshire Juniors take centre stage in the County with our team taking part in the County Championship qualifiers at St Neotts Golf Club. Its 36 holes stroke-play with the best five scores (from six) for each round to count to the final totals, from which only the winning team goes through. This weekend, the U16s have been in action (news here) and the Development Squad took on BB&O (see a special feature coming this week).
