Sant wins for England and other golf news
Jack Sant marked his debut for England by playing a big part in the huge win against Scotland at Gullane last week. England did not lose a match all day although only Jack and his partner Midland Boys Champion Ashley Chesters were the only winners in the morning by 4&3.
Another win - but its not enough
County Captain Andy Kearns will tomorrow pack away his notebooks, his team sheets and his County waterproofs after his two year tenure as the man responsible for the best golfers in Warwickshire, playing for the County. He will do so after a win for the 1sts away against Shropshire & Herefordshire, by the score of 8.5 to 6.5, and a probable second or third place in the Midland League. It was however 'points difference' which was the problem of retaining the title, and Warwickshire need a very big win.
Teams for the Final Midland League Matches
This article contains the teams for the last matches of 2005 for the 1sts and 2nds and great news for Andy Sullivan. The Matches are against Shropshire & Herefordshire and for the 1sts, away at Shrewsbury, and for the 2nds, home at Olton. Your support would be welcome at either match and the 1sts have a chance to win, if Notts falter against Worcestershire.
Tough at the Top
Matthew Cryer returned from the Italian Championship having played some of his best golf and lost out in just R2 of the Matchplay Stages. Cryer followed a 71 with a 66 to comfortably make it through in qualifying and in R1 of the knockout stage, was heading for an approximate 64 to win 2&1.
MORE from the Warwickshire Open
Sponsored by Jaguar Cars, there were two of the sponsor's latest models on view next to the first tee - 'bad parking' said one player. For the 22 Amateurs in the field, a Jaguar is way outside the prize value of the unpaid game whilst a number of the professionals playing do have tour aspirations where a beautiful motor car can be driven away. However the Open was the second day in succession where Amateurs had upstaged the Pros.
Randle's Treble in the Open, sponsored by Jaguar Cars
Edgbaston GC - Tuesday 20th September 2005 - Paul Randle capped a great year for himself, and returned the Open title to Warwickshire Amateur golf, with a two round total of 133 (-5) to beat the 2003 (and Professional) Champion Adrian Carey by two shots. It was impressive golf from a player who had set himself the target of one win in a Warwickshire Championship and was now having to consider a much bigger trophy cabinet for three of the four titles he could play for.
