ITS JUST WEEKS TO THE GOLF SEASON
Tuesday 8th February 2005 - With the golf season barely seven weeks away, this site has lots of features and editorial of interest to golfers of all standards. Below are entry forms for the Warwickshire Boys Trials and the U11s. There is news of the County Squads and their preparations for 2005, and the Quarter Final draw for the Warwickshire Cup.

WARWICKSHIRE SCHOOLS U11S
This Championship will be held on Tuesday 16th August 2005 at Marston Lakes, on the 9 Hole Par 3 Course. The age qualification date is U11 on 31st August 2004 and its open to any Junior Golfer, whether they have a handicap or not. They need to have the basic skills of golf, be able to hit the ball in the air and understand how to play the game (scoring and the basic rules). It could be the first competition for many young golfers so if you know of someone who might like to play, please print off an entry form and the 'read me' notes.
Preparations well under way for 2005
6th February 2005 - Andy Kearns (1st Team Captain) gathered together at Stratford Oaks GC 18 of the players under consideration for County golf for 2005, for an intensive short game and pre play preparation day. Aided by Graham Hargreaves (WU Executive member who has managed much of the new County intitiatives behind ‘Team Warwickshire’) and prospective new County Secretary Graham Hayes, this was a first chance to see the results of individual players’ work during the off-season as Warwickshire prepare to defend the Midland title and look to making County Finals.
ENGLISH GOLF RECEIVES £8 MILLION BOOST
Golf has won the government’s backing with the announcement today from Sport England that it is to receive an £8 million boost over the next four years for the development of the game. The 88 per cent increase of its annual grant to £2 million represents a major leap forward for the England Golf Partnership, which is planning to increase the number of individuals playing golf by 10% by 2009 and grow the active members of affiliated clubs by 50,000.

John has been nominated for the Chairmanship of Junior Golf, a nomination to be endorsed at the Warwickshire Union AGM on March 17th at Copt Heath Golf Club. John and his family have been very active in the Union for some years and he is looking forward to being part of a new set-up for managing an ever growing Junior section and its responsibilities.
